An official student at UPLA!

so today was my first day at university...finally! :) I'm studying psychology at the UPLA (Universidad Peruana Los Andes) now! or at least I'm trying to...because honestly...I hardly understood a word they were saying...only something we had had in school in biology once but I couldn't remember everything so...let's just say I spent the hours writing down my name, my e-mail adress and my phone number, trying to explain that SUIZA is not the same as SUEZIA, what Roeschti and Fondue is and why we don't have "fiestas" every month in Switzerland....:)
When I came in, i was presented to the whole class by the president of the departement and everyone was applauding....then i was brought to the "chefe de la classe"...she could speak english but it was hardly better than my spanish so we changed to spanish again...she tried to explain my schedule but it's soo confusing....somehow the class is devided in 3 groups because there are so many students...but i didn't know in which group i was and wheter i was allowed to choose...so first i just thought i'd take the same classes as she did....but her classes started at 7 a.m and some were even on saturday....later i got to know 3 other girls, who were really nice & told me that i could take their classes as well which are at 8 in the morning and not on saturday....they also told me to meet me tomorrow morning & take me with them and help me wherever they can....really sweet, and even though the other one (the "chefe") was nice as well i felt more comfortable with them.
Anyway....in class i didn't feel it was really hard....the professor told us to be on time all the time (peruvian time ....meaning 10 minutes later :) ) and that we had to read a lot and everything, but it was more like what we had at school in Switzerland. And when I look at my brother and his studies here....it really can't be that hard.....they can just get everything from the internet...copy it and write their name on it and it's fine..:) anyway doesn't matter to me....I don't get any marks either.
Oh almost forgot....today it was also the birthday of 3 people in my class...so they had to stand in the front, while the "chefe" congratulated them and told them how great they were. then we had to sing "happy birthday" twice (english & spanish) for everyone (say 6 times! )...after that the professor told us to go and hug the three and he did so as well.....later they all had to hold as speech saying how thankful they were and how great the class was.......really weird! :)
I'm glad my birthday is in May....i wouldn't know what to do now! :)

So let's see what tomorrow is like! :)

I'll keep you posted! ;)

  2. Strange customs on the other side of the big pond...! but since I'm writing about the medieval marvels of the east in my bachelor paper at the moment it doesn't surprise me that much. Though Peru is real, people with ears so large they cover themselves with them to sleep isn't...
